Spend an evening with a Canadian novelist and raise funds to support free adult literacy tutoring in the West Island. Literacy Unlimited is proud to present virtual Under the Cover, a conversation with a Canadian author about books, the writing process, and topics of interest to the audience.  Under the Cover is Literacy Unlimited’s annual fundraiser, helping raise money to support adults in the West Island to improve their English language literacy. International Literacy Day 2022

September 8th is International Literacy Day. The theme this year is Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces. Low literacy skills limit someone’s access to vital support services, education, health care, as well as work, employment and recreational opportunities. Helping someone improve their literacy skills can change their lives. Providing an enriched and welcoming learning space where they feel ready to learn is so important. That’s what we do at Literacy Unlimited. Over the past 3 years, Literacy Unlimited has leveraged our resources, adapted our approaches, and transformed to meet the needs of our community. Family Fun

This month we supported the West Island Mission de l’Ouest de l’Ile with their Back-to-School event. Ingrid, our community programs coordinator, selected a whole load of amazing books for all ages. The West Island Mission will be adding these great reads to the backpacks that families pick up as they prepare to go back to school. The books reflect a diversity of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical and mental abilities, religion, and culture. Hopefully, every child that picks up a backpack will find a book that resonates with them. Reading is just one great activity to do as …

Family Literacy Day 2022

Celebrate Family Literacy Day 2022 “Improving my literacy allows me to be free. It gives me the confidence to interact more with my kids if they need help.
