January 27th is Family Literacy Day!

Created in 1999 by ABC Literacy Canada, their goal is to remind families of the importance of participating in reading and learning activities together on a daily basis. Below are some fun activities that will help celebrate the day. Enjoy!

ABC Life Literacy – Illustrator Barbara Reid, Canadian Author and IllustratorEVENTGrades 1-6

The Family Literacy Day honorary chair this year is Barbara Reid, Canadian author and illustrator of classic children’s books such as ” Watch it Grow”, ” Picture the Sky” and ” Sing a Song of Bedtime”. On January 27th, 2021 from 4:30pm – 5pm she will be doing a free demonstration on how to use clay to create a picture. Advance registration is required.

Pointe-Claire Library ACTIVITIES – Toddlers to Teens

The Pointe-Claire library has plenty of activities for library members directed to children and teens. Registration is required.

  • Read to a dog on Zoom
  • Puss’N Boots – stories and crafts for toddlers
  • Story Time – stories, crafts and songs – Ages 3-5 years
  • Story Time at Valois – Ages 3-5 years
  • Valois Mornings Story Time and Action Songs – Ages 2+


Arnie the Doughnut. ACTIVITIES – Grades 1-2

Meet Arnie the Doughnut, written and illustrated by Laurie Keller. This was one of my children’s favorite books. The illustrations are fun and the story follows the zany adventures of a doughnut named Arnie.

Storyline Online ACTIVITY – Kindergarten to 4th grade
