On Monday, September 20th, 2021, Canada goes to the Polls to vote. You can find out everything you need to know about about how to register and vote at the official elections website, https://elections.ca

Find out how Elections Canada is working to keep the polling stations safe and what to do if you need to mail in your vote by watching this short infomercial.

A Guide to Voting

ABC Life Literacy has produced a brilliant Guide to Voting.

You can download the Guide to Voting PDF here.

Tutors can use this guide in sessions with their learners. Created in partnership with Elections Canada, A Guide to Voting includes information, links, and activities to help learners understand voting basics, including:

  • Issues & political parties
  • How to register to vote
  • Different ways to vote
  • Accessibility resources available

It also guides tutors through talking to their learners about why voting is important and what to expect at a polling station.

The program is designed to support youth & adult learners with a Grade 6-8 (Stage 2) literacy level. But you can adapt the materials however you see fit.

In addition, ABC Life Literacy has created several bonus online resources, including:

  • Free downloadable activities from the workbook (available on the ABC webpage)
  • Online version of the Guide to Voting course on our ABC Skills Hub platform
  • Online practitioner training (available when you register to download)
